It seems like almost everyone I know has some connection to the military. My bankruptcy paralegal’s husband retired from the Air Force, and her son is currently serving in the Marine Corps at the Parris Island, South Carolina base just outside Beaufort. My brother served in the Air Force. And my wife’s family has two Air Force members in it.
So this got me thinking. What can our firm do to give something back to those serving our country in the Armed Forces? Here’s what we’ve come up with:
- You’ll get a hefty discount off your legal fees for Chapter 7 bankruptcy services or for creditor negotiation services. Our fees are already reasonable, but I’ll discount them another 25% for anyone in the military, including spouses of military personnel.
- We’ll offer flexible scheduling to meet your needs. When you’re in the military, your time is not your own, so we’ll do what we need to make this is easy as possible to accommodate your schedule.
- We’ll let you pay all your Chapter 13 bankruptcy fees in your plan. If we do a Chapter bankruptcy 13 for you, all you need is the filing fee and fee for your credit report.
- And if you’re on active duty in Iraq or Afghanistan, and either you and/or your spouse needs our legal services, we’ll do your Chapter 7 bankruptcy or creditor negotiation for free. Again, you’ll need to pay your filing fee and credit report fees. But my attorney fees for handling your bankruptcy will be waived.
You might wonder why Chapter 13 legal fees are not discounted. Chapter 13 is a “reorganization bankruptcy” or “payment plan bankruptcy.” Since I’m allowing you to pay all of our fees in your plan, essentially your creditors will be paying me by receiving less than they’d normally receive in your case. In most instances, this means Visa and MasterCard just get less. While I have the utmost respect for those serving our country in the military, I don’t share the same respect for Visa and MasterCard. They don’t need a break on my fees! Anything you didn’t pay me in fees would just go to them. There is one twist to this: If you must do a Chapter 13 and repay your creditors 100%, my discount would make a difference to you, and in that case, I’ll apply the same 25% discount as I do in Chapter 7 cases.
From me and my staff, thanks again for all you do to keep us safe and free. We hope this allows us to give something back to make this difficult time for you a little easier to handle.
