Why Choose Us?

We Care.  We believe knowledge and legal ability are important attributes you certainly want in your attorney. But caring is something law school or seminars can’t teach. It’s something that comes from within. We care about our clients and the legal matters they rsz_demott_012have entrusted to us.

We treat our clients with dignity and respect. I know from my more than twenty years representing debtors that they don’t feel good about where they are in life. They feel ashamed, afraid, and definitely not dignified. They may have been harassed by debt collectors, even called names.

The last thing they need is a lawyer who looks down on them, lectures them, belittles them, and who doesn’t care.

I care. And my staff members care. Whether we’ve filed bankruptcy or not, we’ve all experienced financial stress. It’s not fun. We know it’s not fun for you, either. We’ll do everything we can to make this process as painless and uncomplicated as it can be.

We Have Experience.  I have been practicing bankruptcy law now for over twenty years. I’ve represented all sorts of clients with a variety of legal needs. Each case is unique, and my experience representing clients with their own unique set of financial circumstances will help me represent you.

I’m also a licensed financial advisor, so I look at the client’s financial situation as a whole. This approach helps me focus on long-term goals, rather than just a “quick fix” for the immediate debt problems.

We Communicate.  I hate to admit this, but it’s true: most lawyers are horrible at returning phone calls. We never want anyone to make that complaint about us! Our policy is to return all phone calls within 24 hours, and I usually return all my outstanding calls before I go home for the day. Likewise, we respond to email promptly, many times even at night and on weekends. We know how important your case is to you, and how anxious you might be waiting to hear back from us, so we will do whatever we can to minimize your anxiety and make this a painless process for you.

We Improve.  The law changes. Technology changes. We spend considerable time trying to get better and better at what we do. I have made it a point to attend as many seminars as I can fit into my schedule, to ensure that I know about updates and changes in the law and bankruptcy rules. I also research new ways of doing things to make the bankruptcy process run more efficiently. My goal is to continuously develop into a better lawyer so I can more effectively represent my clients.
